EXPERIENCE. LEADERSHIP. INTEGRITY.
Kevin is the candidate in the at-large race with the most local experience. Since coming to Olathe in 1979 to attend MidAmerica Nazarene University, he has put down roots and invested his life in Olathe while our community has grown from a population in the mid 35,000’s to now over 146,000. His three sons are graduates of our Olathe public schools.
He has more than 12 years of service in public office. In addition to his current appointment as Ward 3 representative on the City Council, Kevin has been elected by our community on an at-large basis on three previous occasions – an issue of importance to the Council when considering his appointment.
Since earning his CPA credentials as a young professional, Kevin has held numerous leadership roles as a financial executive in diverse private industries such as real estate development and construction, financial services, higher education, behavioral health services, and now in large church denominational pensions and benefits. He was also a partner in a national consulting firm serving as an independent trusted adviser to owners of small and mid-sized businesses.
Kevin is recognized for his leadership roles in helping to make Olathe the wonderful place it is to live, work and raise a family. He has invested his life not only in elected office but in leading a variety of civic and charitable service organizations.

One of Kevin’s highest priorities is ensuring public resources are managed with integrity and transparency. That begins with understanding taxpayers are not a never-ending supply of resources and government must remain diligent in being clear about its finances and clearly justifying its needs when it comes to taxation.
Kevin does not shy away from making difficult decisions but instead determines what he believes the best course of action to be based on the facts and circumstances of each situation – always keeping in mind the need to maintain a long-term view of the consequences of every decision.
As a long-time Rotarian, Kevin believes in utilizing the Four-Way Test as a guiding principle for personal and professional relationships:
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
WHY YOUR VOTE IS IMPORTANT
I believe we get the government we deserve and that is never more evident than in local, off-year elections. Because they typically have the lowest level of voter participation, your ability to influence the outcome is more important than ever. Please be sure you are registered and then vote!” - Kevin Gilmore
